Protective Style Challenge

As we all make New Years Resolutions one of my top priorities is nursing my hair back to a healthy state. I had some damage from Dominican blowouts so after cutting away the damage my goal is to do protective styling about every other week.

This style was achieved by braiding hair up towards the center and then twisting the ends. I then pin curled the twists. This will allow me to get more wear out of this style. I’ll wear the pin curls for one week and the following week take them down for a different look.

Im Back!!!

I decided to take break from blogging here recently due to some family issues. My mother had been battling Gallbladder Cancer which has really taken toll on my family. But with GOD all things are possible and we see a full recovery in the near future.  We’ve beat Colon Cancer 3 years ago so I know God specializes in Encores!!  So now I have time to focus on blogging, photography and crocheting being that it’s getting close to the winter months.

Do You Qualify?

DO YOU QUALIFY?

Author: Brian Bruce

Do you qualify?
Do you qualify to be the man I need you to be?
Will you be able to recognize the things you need to see?
Will you be able to understand, that I’m a good woman and in my life I need a good man?
Do you qualify?
Do you qualify to fertilize my unproduced seeds?
Can you fulfill, as I can, all of our needs?
Can you put me in my place if you see I am slippin?
Can you talk to me, whole-heartedly, not constantly trippin’??
Do you qualify?
Do you qualify to be called all mine?
Can you leave the other women and temptations behind?
Can you come to me with your problems and not wait until it’s too late?
Can you stand up and admit if you made mistake?
Do you qualify?
Do you qualify to be the honest ebony man I would want you to be?
Would you be able to look me in my eyes and admit your feelings to me?
Could you take me in your arms and make love to me all night long?
Can you be sensitive and still be strong?
Do you qualify?
Do you qualify to be my friend as well as my lover?
Can you put our love before any other?
Can you cherish me as if I were Diamonds & Gold?
Can you make me feel like I’m the last woman you’ll ever hold?
Do you qualify?
Do you qualify to be called a good man?
If I have doubts can you reassure me and understand?
Can your love intoxicate me as if I were High? To be in my life, I need to know, DO YOU QUALIFY?

 A BROTHERS RESPONSE:

You ask, do I qualify?
Can I fulfill your needs and become the man you need me to be?
My sister, have you prepared for what you’ve asked for?
Can you handle the responsibility?
Can you accept that, by GOD, I am the chosen one, the authority, the comforter, and the head?
Will you submit and willingly follow my path?
Or will you fight with me instead?
If I am your King, will you treat me as such?
Will I get the best of your beauty and poise?
Or will I be subjected, to an appearance neglected, and checked with some serious noise?
When I talk, will you listen?
I mean whole heartedly and feel me?
Or will you rush me just to make your point too?
Can I be the man at all times?
Even when it hurts? Or is it just when it’s convenient for you?
Can you love me for me, and not who you wish I could be?
Will you see the strong Black Man within?
Or will you always remind me of the all the past brothers behind me and make me pay for their sins?
If I don’t send you flowers the day your co-worker received some, will you know that I love you still?
Or will my good name be uttered along with those other doggish brothers?
Will you question if my commitment is real?
Will you be patient and teach me to understand you, and allow my knowledge of your needs to grow?
Or will you shut me out when I ask, “Baby what’s wrong?”
Or will you respond with, “Well a REAL man would know!”
When we first met, what was it that caught your eye?
Was it my mind, my heart, my personality? Or was it my suit, or my job, or do you love what I drive, instead of what’s driving me?
Yes I can, and I will, make love to you from midnight to the dawning of the sun.
But, if I tell you I’m tired, will you trust I’m sincere or believe that there must be another one?
My sister, I love you and my heart can be yours.
No woman could lead me astray.
But like you, I have needs, so I beg of you, please, in this love thang meet me half way.
In life’s tough times I’ll hold you, in the rough times I’ll mold you, your simplest wish will be my command.
My life is yours if need be.
Yes you can fully bleed me, and when hell comes, in your place, I’ll stand.
A good relationship is a powerful institution that must be built on a foundation of two.
So to answer your question, YES sister, I do qualify. Now more importantly…..DO YOU?

A Testament of Faith

I  can remember it like it was yesterday..it will be three years this June that my world was in turmoil and God was about to open my eyes.  It was a hot day and I was helping my aunt with a yard sale.  An older caucasian male came up to me and I cant remember what he was looking for nor could I tell you what he looked like or his name.  All I remember is that I will forever remember that man because I felt as if God sent him to me on that very day to ensure me that what I was about to endure was going to be ok….the older man handed me an angel made out of a paper clip, beads and party ribbon…as he handed it to me I realized that it was my favorite color Pink…he laughed and said well how did I know that…Its a little angel to watch over you! That Monday my mommy was admitted into the hospital and later that week diagnosed with colon cancer.  But I can tell you how good God is out of all the hospital beds in Forsyth Hospital God placed my mother under the care of one of the ministers of the church I attended. I recognized her face but couldn’t remember where I knew her from until later that night..It was then God placed it on my heart to write her a letter which was way out of my comfort zone. ..I never had spoken to her nor did I know if she would recognized me but I wrote it anyway..I sat in the hospital waiting room and poured my heart out on paper and left the letter for her at the nurses station…the next morning she came it and prayed with my mother and I…something so simple made a world of difference and lifted my mothers spirits….she was cancer free for three years….That was no coincidence but God…that angel hangs from the signal in my car still to this day…the beads may have lost their color but It serves as a reminder to me to keep my faith!! Today I learned that my mothers cancer has resurfaced….at first I broke down because She is my world…there for her each and every time i needed her with out explanation…she has always been there unselfishly putting my sisters and I above all and herself last…i cried, and cried, and cried…but never questioned God because I know he did it before and IM GOING TO WATCH HIM DO IT AGAIN! Its hard being the oldest…everyone looks to you to be the rock or shoulder to lean on in hard times…I PRAY FOR STRENGTH, COURAGE. Life is too short to dwell on petty things over the course of these last three years God is showing me that little by little, I can care less if I have a car to drive, a house to live in, or a place to lay my head down at night as long as my family is healthy and happy I AM CONTENT WITH MY LIFE!!!! Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6) I LOVE YOU MOMMY AND EVERYTHING WILL BE OK///I KNOW IT WILL BECAUSE WE SERVE A GOD THAT CAN FIX ALL THINGS!!!!

Phases of hair growth/ pH and hair

Phases of Hair Growth

Your hair has 3 phases of growth that complete more than 20 cycles over the span of your lifetime.  The hair is a  keratin (protein)…the same kind of protein that make your nails. The protein in composed of oxygen, iron, nitrogen, hydrogen, sulphur, carbon and phosphorus.  The bloodstream nourishes the hair through the dermal papilla. This is why diet, exercise and what you put into your body affects the appearance of your hair and how it grows.  Drink plenty of water, eat green leafy veggies, and fruits. The hair bulb is what produces your hair pigment or hair color.  As you age the production of pigment slows down and this is what causes grey hairs.

RANDOM HAIR FACTS:

Hair grows quicker in the winter seasons than summer.

You have anywhere from 100,000-150,000 hairs on your head.

When your hair grows it’s not growing in unison…different hairs are in different phases.

The structure of hair is made up of three layers which are:

Medulla-(inner layer) looks almost like a honeycomb would look like.  Poor health, drugs and medicine directly affect the medulla.

Cortex-(middle) Contributes of strength, color and texture.

Cuticle-(outer) Coated with Sebum which gives hair its shine.  If this layer is damaged your hair will become wear and fragile.  This layer protects the Cortex.

This is where the ph of products come into factor when considering which ones are better to use for your hair so that your hair thrives and is protected! The pH of hair when wet is in a range of 4.5-5.5. This is when the hair is its strongest because its balances and it is recommended that you only manipulate your hair when wet. When it comes to pH Alkaline solutions open your hair cuticle and Acidic solutions close the cuticle.  Water is Neutral at a pH of 7 HAIR DYES are alkaline because they open the cuticle and alter the color of your hair.  RELAXERS are too because they open the cuticle and break down your natural hair bond & relax your normal texture.

These phases are of hair growth:

Anagen (GROWING PHASE)- Your hair is in this phase 80-90% of the times in which it grows continuously for a period of 3-7 years at a rate of 1/2 per month.

Catagen (TRANSITIONAL PHASE)- Your hair detaches from the hair supply, your follicle shrinks 1/6 of its size.Telogen

(RESTING PHASE)- Final phase of hair growth in which your hair sheds, the follicle falls off and is replaced by new hair.

Hello Hydration-My new found <3

My hair has began a new love affair and kicked my beloved Assie Moist to the curb.   This past weekend I was walking up and down the aisles of Target in search of products and debating which ones I wanted to try.  After coloring my hair I wanted to be sure to take the proper precautions to keep it moisurized to minimize breakage.  I kept going back to the hello hydration.  I was hesitent about trying it because I have previously tried it and it didnt stick in my regimen. Nonetheless I purchased it and my hair ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!!  It felt moisturized, great slip, mimimal shedding (which shocked me because I steared away from my normal washing routine of washing my hair in sections.  This was only because I was away from home) I love the scent which isnt too overpowering (contains hawaiian coconut & orchid) and after styling my hair I had less frizz! MOST DEFINATELY ADDING THIS TO THE REGIMEN!!! The price doesnt make it bad either at $2.99 at target!!!!!!  Cant wait to try this as a wash and go….

Timothy Bloom- Til the End of Time ft. V

This highly controversial video exhibits loves in raw form. So many people are taken aback at the fact that they are nude and miss the beauty of the song and both singers. I love the song!!!! This makes the list of my top songs of 2011!
